I thought I broke my FireFox today.

I had to reinstall Firefox 3.0.1 (a weird oversight on my part).

Once I did that I noticed that java/java-script features on various websites no longer worked!!

So for instance:

  1. when I hit anything in the post formatting boxes on a vBulletin forum (like the smileys) nothing happened, or
  2. when I hit a link @ Photrade that said javascript:void(0) nothing happened.
  3. Trying to use the “multi-quote” feature @ http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ also was broken.

I thought what the heck did I do! I had java & JS enabled in FF.

I restarted FF, rebooted… nothing doing in any case.

Then I go to wondering…had anything else changed today besides my reinstall of FF….YES!!!

There were 9 Microsoft XP “security” updates today!

I tried removing all of them and everything was back to normal!!!

So I’m off…off to see which one was the culprit! If anyone find it before me, comment and let me know as I won’t bother investigating it tonight…just releived I found the culprit!

Thanks MicroSoft!

I’m still using Firefox 2.whatever as I heard that some people were having troubles with ver3. Still, I reckon we all are having problems with one thing or another, me I’m scratching my head over why the commentluv plugin isn’t working with my latest blog theme??

    well, it’s NOT KB952287 or KB951066

somehow I had auto updates ON ….no wonder the 9 installed by themselves. I need to make a list of things to change when I do fresh install of XP

    1) turn on being able to see hidden files and folders
    2) make sure update DL but do not install automatically

This is my first issue with FF V3. As of yet, hearing from 9 people, they did not have the same issue I did.
One HUGE advantage of FF3 over 2 is that they plugged over 300 memory leaks, FF3 does not bleed memory like 2 did!

Mmm, I may have to have a look at upgrading, oh and BTW, I fixed the commentluv problem I had. Couldn’t do anything with the original comments.php because I am .php dumbass so I tried one from another plugin and it worked fine. SHOCK HORROR! LOL Have to be lucky sometime.

Well, I have the luxury of having a desktop and a laptop. I keep FF2 on the DT just for some of the old add-ons wheres FF3 works better on my LT b/c of the memory issue with 2.

Cool! I’m no better for the php…I couldn’t code my butt out of a wet paper bag!
