Cape Neddick “Nubble” Lighthouse, Long wave exposures

Written by timsdd on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010 in Photography.

A rare treat, a HDR/long exposure. You’ll notice the ghosting tourists, they add an element of mystique to the photo.

The lighting was great, full on sun is usually the worst time to shoot and I lucked out here.

The sky was a little muddled but thanks to the HDR I was able to pull some details from it.

The long exposures with the waves makes the surface of the water appear fog like.

The contrast between the rocks and the water made this shot worthy of a B&W conversion.

Water lends itself nicely to B&W which is why a lot of the ones below are just that!

Cape Neddick “Nubble” Lighthouse, in a different light

Written by timsdd on Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 in Photography.

At first I thought someone leaving their lights on pointed at the lighthouse was a MAJOR annoyance,
but then I realized that it was a sure fire nifty way to shed some light on the subject, quite literally in fact!

Check out this first photo where the entire section of rocks leading to the ocean are lit by someone with their headlights BEAMING for who knows how long.

No moonlight? No problem!

I don’t go in for playing with the plug-ins much (though I loved it when I first discovered photo editing).
But I thought this was a nice way to break out this photo.

Cape Neddick “Nubble” Light HDR Photos III

Thankfully the lighthouse and buildings had LED string lights on them otherwise it would have been a boring and short night!

When we were there 2 years ago the moon was full and it was awesome!

Moonlight is KEY for shooting at night, at least it makes it a lot easier in certain applications.

No moon for this trip, not even a sliver of light :/

Fun with RAW! This is the same image but +2 exposure with the RAW editor.

MORE noisy than I would have liked/thought so I also applied a little noise reduction.

Amazing what you can do with RAW files though!

Wow, I really wish I would have tried more of these I love how it came out {image on the right}.

This was the only one I shot though.

Probably didn’t take the time to do more since the regular exposure took forever at times.
