I worked for a great little entertainment magazine Insite Austin.

While they weren’t able to pay me at least I got to see some cool acts for free and they used my images in their Insite Hinsdsite featured section.

This post and several following are some of the acts I got to shoot.
311 Was far and away to the most exciting and most well known of all the acts I got to cover….in fact, I was actually there specifically to shoot the opening act that night, Pepper! In talking with one of the concert goers during a downpour break, he encouraged me to get down there and slip into the same spot with my credentials (sticker) and have @ it with 311! And the guys working security let me!! :-)

Confession time, I was actually trying to get a miniature effect from the top of this parking garage but I used the wrong aperture

One of those live and learn moments. Whih is also a good lesson, set your camera settings prior to arriving on location if you know you are there to achieve a specific shot or look. Sure, you should always check your settings anyway before shooting bu for some reason that day my brain had a short circuit

These first two once again represent a good example of a normal 24mm shot and then the same shot with the tilt/shift enabled. As you can see, it makes the dome much straighter than the normal 24mm shot (some of the normal 24mm shot might have been my fault having a sharp angle thus making the convergence seem that much more prevalent).

This was a quick grab, would have loved to have spent more time with it, perhaps trying a HDR but I was pressed for time as it was. The coloring is just a little artistic PS license.

This was using the tilt/shift to create some distortion, notice how elongated the dome of the capitol building is compared to the last shot.

I went downtown to actually shoot this from afar but couldn’t resist visiting the grounds since it was such a nice day…more specifically a great cloud day.

I also wanted to take a few standard 24mm shots and then some from the same perspective with the tilt/shift to give you an idea of the kinds of things this lens can do.

This (Austin’s 360 Bridge also known as Pennybacker Bridge ) is one of my favorite landmarks to photograph in Austin. The only problem is that I’ve never been there to take pics @ sunset or sunrise………………….definitely a cardinal sin for sure for any photographer.

I have no excuses really, it’s close enough to me that it shouldn’t be a problem, I have just never taken the time (many things are like that).

This was a rare instance of free time recently that I was able to break away from the house for a couple of hours with my new lens. I wanted to see what the TSE lens would do with the bridge.

The few shots I was able to include a boat in seemed to work well with the “mini” look

The shots that included the bridge didn’t exactly make it mini but it seemed interesting enough. I think being as close to the bridge as I was though, I’d need a much further vantage point in order to miniaturize the bridge.

Some more pictures from my Mt. Bonnell trip with my new lens. I was practically the only one there that morning but then again it would be far more popular at dusk when the sun is setting!

I’m sure the residents of the area love the traffic that the park shoots through their neighborhood. Don’t cry too hard for them as I’m sure most, if not all of them are multi-million dollar homes!

I think this first one is my favorite of the lot, including ones in previous posts. I think it shows to be a great example of the miniature look.
