360 Bridge Austin, TX and Fire Spinners!

You never know what you might find atop the cliffs @ the 360 Pennybacker bridge in Austin, TX!

I was up there scouting the bridge for a sunset walk a couple weeks ago and much to my dismay these folks showed up and put on a little side show!
My only lament is that they never contacted me, I wouldn’t mind shooting them again!

I went with B&W for a lot of these for a couple of reasons,
1) the buildings lend themselves nicely to it, and B) something about the processing left me not so jovial about the results. It’s probably a combination of things (isn’t it always). I suspect in some cases I did not go far enough -Ev and in other cases things just too muddled (saturated).

REgardless, I wanted to venture out and try something different :)

Funny thing about this one, I stood on a transformer outside the center field fence in order to take this shot.

You can see the fence at the bottom of the frame, my tri-pod was tall enough to clear the fence and between it and the transformer I was able to balance it to take the shot(s).

24mm TSE…look how straight up & down these are :)

Haha, I left my shadow in this b/c it looks like I am balancing my camera on top of my head….

Here’s another ‘decent’ example of what the tilt-shift lens does for you in architecture photos.
I say decent because it is shot at a different focal length than the regular lens. I’ll have to make sure to shoot both @ 24mm next time!

TSE, as you can see it really levels the building more to what you see with your eyes….

12mm, where with the wide angle you really get distortion from the lens…which can add a neat element to the photos sometimes.

These next few were extremely difficult since the lighting was so vastly different.
The HDR helped but it’s not seamless in some cases. I probably should have used more exposures though I think most of them are easily 6 frames per.

Another with the tilt-shift, it’s a fun lens! :)

This was like the only cloud during this sunset so I had to make sure to hit it whenever I could!

Not everybody gets to take a sweet trip for their spring break. Let me assure you we had the luxury of travelling to a regular hotbed of activity for spring breakers…..LUBBOCK! I joke!!

We had fun, a family thing but I got out a time or two to take some pics and this was the last day we were there. I had gone out the day before but the skies were cloudless, rather dull and the TTU campus was locked down TIGHT for spring break, I think the only building I came across that was open was the library.

Finally! Some clouds and I went for it, perfect time of day to do so too, sunset.

Lastly, you’ll want to pay particular attention to the last 2 photos. One shot @12mm and the other @ 24mm but with a tilt-shift lens. It really shows you an example of how valuable a TSE lens can be.

I have more of these than I thought! My only lament @ this point is that they were all taken on the Canon 40D instead of the 5DMII. Reason being is that I have yet to purchase a remote trigger for the 5D. The much larger file size would come in handy for a lot of reasons, primarily helpful for the ones that I crop…though that number is roughly < 8.8857% of the photos.

Some of these are really starting to take shape :p Quite literally. I see a lot of them where it looks like there are paint stick figures if you will and a couple of times it looks like there are a pair of them and they are dancing...maybe it's just me!

You tell me!, what do you see????
