Breakin the law, breakin’ the law (and other stuff)

Written by timsdd on Saturday, September 17th, 2011 in Sound Trigger.

These are all what I consider QDE’s, quick and dirty edits.
You’ll notice some of them I did not even bother to remove the clamp, I figure they are interesting enough but not near ‘stock worthy’.

What I’ll do next is go back and tighten the ones I think might make it past the istock micro pixel peepers. Getting rid of any and all noise is ALWAYS paramount with them.

I understand that, you don’t want the quality of the site to suffer on the technical side BUT rarely if ever has anyone purchased the LARGEST size photo from me so the viewing @ 10000000% on my monitor to ensure pixel integrity is MOOT! If it’s a good image it should belong in the library [within reason]. If the inspectors do not like a certain element of the file when viewed @ 100%, they should just be able to limit the largest size of the file available for sale. I’ve had a bushel basket of photos rejected for inane reasons….file is pixelated, blah, blah, blah. But I digress (as I often do!)

ON to the breakage!!!

Breaking Light bulbs….shattering glass! Found the sweet spot.

Written by timsdd on Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 in Sound Trigger.

If you will recall from my last STP (sound trigger post), it was taking me a while to get my groove back in regards to firing a projectile and capturing said projectile running into my target.

I am happy to announce I have found said groove! The solution was actually to abandon my bb guns (which took away a large portion of my accuracy) and go simple…a sling shot! If you can believe it, the motion of the sling shot actually set the trigger off too! Until I positioned the sound trigger further away from the release point.

They look impressive enough, though I have not examined the jpgs closely; so I am not sure if any will be suitable for stock. I did not edit them for this post with that in mind though, as should be very clear on a couple of captures.

One last thought on the sling shot, I use multiple bb’s and so that really helps mushroom the glass upon impact whereas with the bb guns, the impact often left a clean small hole both on entry and exit.

Sound Trigger

Learning Curve: see also ME!
It never fails. Whenever I go to take some of these kind of pictures (water drops too), I make a relatively small change and it’s like starting from scratch.

This time for some reason I could not get the sound trigger synced with the bulb actually breaking. It was triggering whenever the gun fired.

SO, this round is a whole lot of FAIL but interesting nevertheless. I particularly like the ones where I tried dropping the bulbs from 2-3′ and they BOUNCED off the hard surface! Check out the rebound of all the tiny glass particles, wild stuff.
