Pikes Falls Jamaica, VT – I never found it!!

Written by timsdd on Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 in Vermont Pictures.

After some digging around online I finally found the falls I was after this day Pikes Falls Jamaica, VT, instead I wound up shooting a small brook!

All was not lost though as I ended up with some pretty interesting images, probably more so than if I would have found Pikes Falls!!

Most of the leaves had fallen already otherwise I would have included some of the in the images (if I could have).

I’m pretty sure I staged this photo which is probably why this caterpillar was looking for the nearest exit!
Got to admit though, he sure is an interesting creature!

I found a million of these (varying varieties) on the hike up Ascutney. They are one of my favorite things to photograph actually. Often times they have great colors and of course they have lots of bumps, grooves, and otherwise.

You could easily spend hours upon hours taking pictures of them on any given trail, something I hope to have time to do someday!

mushrooms

This was a vain attepmpt in finding a particular falls…that was NOT marked very well i might add.
These turned out to be interesting enough, though i now must make the journey someday again to find what I was looking for in the first place!

I’ll be sure to look up the name of the falls I was looking for, maybe some Vermonters can point me in the right direction!

CHOPBVM – Change of pace, backyard Vermont macros

Written by timsdd on Monday, April 19th, 2010 in Vermont Pictures.

Say hello to my Dad’s backyard! Macro style.

At first glance you wouldn’t think there is much to photograph in the backyard. It’s any backyard USA, or at least pretty normal for one that you might find in VT.

Therein is the beauty of macro photography, it’s a world unto it’s own!

It would have been nice to have my ring flash to use instead of using 1600ISO all the time but the macro lens with the F/2.8 does a pretty decent job @ that ISO even when i am LAZY and hand hold the pictures! :o

I am pretty sure this is a dying plant leaf as opposed to a regular leaf from a tree. You’d think i could remember a little more detail about images I took a mere 3 years ago! Oh well :)

I was loving the texture of this bracket and how the background color was such a good match.

This is a living version of the first picture, look familiar to anyone?

Leaves are SUPER fascinating very close up. Such an intricate vein system for the lack of a better description.

This is where I really missed my ring flash, to be able to stop down to F/11 to get more of him in focus.

But again, not too bad considering he was surely OTM (on the move). Had to really time my shots as he was bobbing and weaving all over the place.
