This is the first of ~ 34 time-lapse videos I want to migrate from Youtube/Metacafe to Smugmug. I will be still be using Blogger, YT&MC for viewership, but will do all of my new posts from here from now on.

The Smugmug versions are much better quality than the Youtube versions and sometimes marginally to quite a bit better than the Metacafe versions. I will also go back and eventually re-sample the videos to a larger resolution and change/get rid of the (I’ve been told – annoying) watermark. Those changes might not take place until the fall however, or at least a couple months from now.

I know, I know, this particular subject has been done to death, heck even I’ve done it at least twice.

I actually recorded this not knowing what I would get. The sky just looked interesting though the way the clouds closest were moving so fast.

Really it turned out cool b/c @ the end there are 2 levels of clouds moving in different directions. I thought that was pretty interesting, I don’t recall ever seeing that much if ever before!

I have found the answer, I have seen the light when it comes to uploading my

TIME-LAPSE VIDEO’s!

Smugmug now allows me to upload videos, and unlike YouTube (which uses an antiquated video transcoding codec),

Smugmug got it right using the stellar H.264 codec (developed by Apple?)

You can actually get them going at the same time with a little finesse of the pause buttons and you’ll see that the SmugMug version is 33-44% “chunky” IMO.

I’ve seen many variations and I usually don’t know which one to write! We may never know but feel free to comment if you have an opinion one way or the other

HERE is something I found very interesting today as I was browsing my SmugMug account, they now allow you to upload and embed flash videos…so I may have finally solved my poor quality situation with YT/MC/MySp

I am very interested to see how this discovery pans out (pun intended). I hope to be able to spend some time with it tomorrow as I have no idea if I need to upload a FLV file or if they transcode the file like all the other sites or what…if it’s the latter then I might be screwed!
