Camo spider: 1, honey bee: 0

Written by timsdd on Tuesday, April 26th, 2011 in Extreme Macro Photography.

This is how camouflaged this spider was, I did not even see him until AFTER I checked the pulse of the bee. I saw the bee of course and I was like huh….stroke? Bee heart palpitations? I knew he was DOA, or was pretty sure. I even poked him with some grass to see if he’d move! That’s when I saw the spider!!

I was like oops, proceed! Please do not let me interrupt your bee smoothie!

TiMACROfied – Macro Guessing Game #1

Written by timsdd on Wednesday, March 30th, 2011 in Macro Guessing Game.

It’s time! Time to play. Please don’t let it be such that I am playing with myself. Participation is key ;-)

Be sure to review “the drop” (the information) on the game.

One of the things I forgot to mention in that above post, sometimes I will purposely change the color of the item, either for artistic qualities or to make the item a little more challenging to guess.  That is one of the hints/questions I will answer if asked.

For this item, the color was not altered – though will all my images, I may add contrast, saturation, etc. to suit my liking.

TiMACROfied – Macro Guessing Game!!

Written by timsdd on Tuesday, March 29th, 2011 in Macro Guessing Game.

(Terminology) BACKGROUND

  • Macro photography is close-up photography of usually very small subjects.
  • The classical definition is that the image projected on the digital sensor is close to the same size as the subject (1:1)

TiMACROfied – Macro Guessing Game!!

What to expect:
I use a combination of lenses and sometimes extension tubes to achieve a higher ratio than just using a true macro lens (1:1). I estimate my images to be nearer to 3:1.

  • In essence that means you are seeing a much smaller surface area of the objects I am photographing.
  • It makes it more challenging but the images are often more abstract and more interesting than traditional similar macro guessing games whereby the participants just find a photo, crop it, and then make the people guess the cropped section.

My TiMACROfied images are never cropped, just really really close ;-)

Macro examples:

~3:1

So the surface area of the object you are trying to guess is the same area of Lincolns head! Pretty tiny!!

The Game:

I post a (TiMACROfied) SUPER macro and you try to guess what the image is.

Tips:

  • The items are (usually) typical normal everyday items most people would have in their homes. We have 3 kids, so it’s a good bet that toys will occupy a large segment of the items I photograph!
  • I never post anything evil/gross….like extreme close up of body parts, fly vomit, or naval lint. Though at times, for instance, food can look quite ominous!
  • You are free to ask questions, ex. is it edible? And I will try my best to give clues when needed.

THE WINNER:

Gets any 4×6 image of their choice from my website. But you are responsible for giving me the link to the image(s) you want ;-)
And/But, to conserve on po$tage, I will wait until 3-4 images are guessed correctly before I mail them out :-)

The Where:

Ideally, I’d like to have the game to be run strictly from my blog, http://www.timsdd.com/
But since I will be harassing my FB friends to participate, leaving cmts in the NetworkedBlogs feed will be the best bet.

Look for the posts that look like: TiMACROfied 6 hours ago via NetworkedBlogs, and have at it! :-)
