My Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens

Written by timsdd on Monday, November 17th, 2008 in My Camera Equipment, Photography, Photrade.

The next item up for bid (just an expression, it’s not for sale!) is my macro lens…and if you know anything about me and what I shoot, you’ll know this is a very often used lens!

This is a true macro lens of course. Allowing you to achieve 1:1 magnification ratios. Whereas for instance a lot of zoom lens also have a macro function @ the highest mm value, like 200 or 300mm but the BIG difference being that the macro magnification is only 1:3 or even 1:4.

Due to the uncertainty of the future of Photrade these are likely the last images I post from and upload to that site.

As it is, it’s not probably that we’ll get paid anymore for ad rev. That is unless of course it’s just one of hundreds of things that is on Andrew’s to-do list and he hasn’t gotten to it yet.

Here is my last macro, it is the blade portion of a man’s electric razor (the part that vibrates).

Go WIDE! My Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG Aspherical

Written by timsdd on Monday, October 27th, 2008 in My Camera Equipment, Photography.

Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG Aspherical

Specifications:

* Model Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG
* Focal length 12-24mm
* Max aperture F/4.5-5.6
* Min aperture f/22
* Construction 16/12 elements/groups
* Angle of view 122-84.1°(Full frame)
* Min Focus 0.28m
* Dimensions 87×102.5mm
* Weight 0.6kg

This is the one lens I wish to heck I had a full frame sensor. So instead of 12-24mm, my 1.6 crop makes it 19-38mm. Which is still within the realms of being wide angle (<35mm) but I can only imagine the field of view being that much more so with another 7mm+

This is a beast of a lens though, it makes the Canon 10-22 lens look like a toy.

It is an amazingly fun/addictive lens to shoot with though. It’s crazy how much you can fit into the frame with it. Even with it running @ the cropped 19mm, you can basically fit entire rooms in the field of view indoors and outdoors it can span entire buildings with ease.

The only shame is that I don’t use it more often!

I thought it was high time to break up the drops series again (even though I only ave one more in this set to go!)

This is the Canon 50mm/1.4

The 1.4 meaning how wide the aperture can open, I.E. 1) it’s fast, 2) it can give a very shallow DOF (depth of field).

This is a very useful prime lens. If I were using a camera that had a full frame sensor (instead of most DSLR’s that have a crop factor of 1.6) 50mm is basically a WYSIWYG lens. Meaning what you view through the viewfinder is about what you’ll capture on your sensor.

I used this lens almost exclusively for shooting live music b/c I never used a flash when doing so. The F/1.4 allows you to use a very fast shutter speed compared to most lenses.

I also use this lens to mount onto the end of my Sigma macro lens, thus achieving a diopter magnification effect. Instead of the 1:1 magnification ratio that I can achieve with my macro lens, the 2 lenses combined gives me roughly a 3:1 magnification.

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield. (Psalm 5:11-12, ESV)
